  8. BARTEYES 3.1

  11. BARTEYES 3.1 is a mouse tracker and screen blanker program.  Digital sound
  12. is provided through the use of DSOUND.DLL which is part of SOUNDER 2.0:
  13. Digitalized Sound Player for Windows 3.0 from Aaron Wallace.  SOUNDER is
  14. a great program -- Download it if you have the chance!  BARTEYES 3.1 is
  15. a rewrite of the original BARTEYES and its sequel BARTEYES II.  The outward
  16. appearance is pretty much the same, but the internal functionality has been
  17. totally revamped.  Additional features include an option to keep Bart
  18. visible at all times (the Bring To Front option),a mac-like zooming window
  19. effect (Zoom Windows), and a Sleep Now/Sleep Never option.

  45. USING BARTEYES 3.1
  46. ------------------
  47. In the system menu of BARTEYES 3.1 is a Preferences... option.  This will bring
  48. up a dialog box with the following options:
  49.  
  50.     Screen blanking time:  Sets the blanking time in seconds.
  51.  
  52.     Sound                  Check this if you want Bart to talk.
  53.  
  54.     AutoLoad               Check this if you want BARTEYES 3.1 to be loaded
  55.                            automatically when you start Windows.
  56.  
  57.     Zoom Windows           Check this for Mac-like exploding windows.
  58.  
  59.     Bring To Front         Check this to keep BARTEYES 3.1 visible at all
  60.                            times.

  62.     Sleep Now              Check the box which represents the corner of the
  63.                            screen which you want to use for the Sleep Now
  64.                            area.  Moving the cursor to this corner will cause
  65.                            the screen to blank immediately.

  67.     Sleep Never            Check the box which represents the corner of the
  68.                            screen which you want to use for the Sleep Never
  69.                            area.  Moving the cursor to this corner will prevent
  70.                            the screen from blanking regardless of the idle
  71.                            time.

  73.     SOUNDER Control Panel: Brings up the DSOUND control panel.

  79. Before trying to play a sound, it is necessary to set a few parameters
  80. using the DSOUND Control Panel especially if you are using 386
  81. Enhanced mode.  The correct values for the parameters will depend
  82. on which mode you are running Windows in.  Note that they must be
  83. set for each mode you plan to use while Windows is in that mode.

  85. The DSOUND Control Panel will tell you which mode you're
  86. currently running in.  Also verify that the DSOUND version is 2.0.
  87. The Control Panel will not work with DSOUND.DLL 1.0 (shipped
  88. with Sounder 1.0).

  90. If you are in Real or Standard mode, initially set the volume to 10
  91. (use the slider above it) and check the Use Timer box.  Press the Test
  92. button.  Adjust the volume to your liking (note that the volume of
  93. individual sounds can be set as well; the test sound is a "typical"
  94. sound).  If the sound has a lot of static, sounds unrecognizable, or
  95. otherwise is not Bart saying, "Oh, come on, I'll cheer you up," it may
  96. be necessary to use a delay value instead of the timer as explained
  97. for 386 Enhanced mode.

  99. If you are in 386 Enhanced Mode, the Set Timer box will be grayed.
  100. It will be necessary to set a delay value that is specific to your
  101. machine and hardware.  DSOUND cannot figure this out on its own
  102. due to limitations of 386 Enhanced mode.  16 works well with a
  103. 386sx-20.  Use the Test sound to determine if the tempo of the
  104. playback is correct.  If the sound plays back too quickly, bump up
  105. the delay value; if it's too slow, bump the delay down.  Adjust the
  106. volume to your liking.

  108. When done, press the Exit button.  This will save stuff in WIN.INI.
